The Al East once again claimed the rank as the most volatile market within the MLB. New York Yankees "Team Fantasy" seats traded down (50.00%) on the session as they plummeted to 11 games back in their division. The Yankees suffered a loss to Toronto last night bringing their overall record to 66-59. If the Yankees lose tonight to the Jays, the Blue Jays will tie the Yankees for third place in the division and officially enter the Wild Card race. To put it bluntly, the Yankees are becoming a logn shot to make the playoffs and traders are reading into this. The Blue Jays who have a one game difference between the Yankees traded at ($2.00) today while the Yankees remain trading above ($100.00). One good reason to blame for the Yankees stubborn prices on the board, is it being the last season at Yankee Stadium. But traders are already seeing the light and steering away from the Yankees and have been depressing their tickets for weeks now.
As for the AL East division leading Rays, they just continue to impress baseball aficionados across the country as they go for the sweep tonight against the Angels. If the Rays win tonight, they will own the best record in baseball. As a result of their 2 consecutive losses, the Angels were down (4.00%) to ($607.02) while the Rays were up (9.00%) to ($314.41) on the session. The Wild-Card leading Red Sox remained stable holding at a bid of ($740.00) and an ask of ($1,000). Lately, the Sox spread has grown as they start to create more separation in the AL Wild-Card race. The White Sox won yesterday to move up 1 game on the Minnesota Twins, tacking on (31.27 %) for the session.
The less dominant league for the past decade, was also the least dominant today as NL trading was fairly light. The current NL West leading Diamondbacks, added (20.26)% to their stock while the Dodgers shed a little more than (11.00%). Investors appeared to mix in sentiments regarding the Cubs as they traded down early in the session only to rebound to their opening levels in the latter part of the day. The Cubs are the largest market piece for the NL and overwhelmingly dictate the price of NL tickets.
While the Cubs are preparing for the playoffs, the NFL is getting ready to begin another successful season. Today's NFL market was largely a slaughter outside of Category A seats as traders become more bullish on other categories. This may be a great time for speculators looking for a low risk trade to jump on cheap overall tickets.
In the coming days, I would keep an eye on the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Mets, and Phillies over the coming weeks. All these teams are vying for control of their division and volatility can be expected.
