Market Report 8/21

In today's market, the NY Jets experienced a huge push in "Team Fantasy" seats which can be a direct result of Brett Favre's solid performance this past weekend against the Washington Redskins in pre-season action. The contracts to see the J-E-T-S in the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay next year were up ($234.45). That's a (+64.22%) increase from yesterday's closing price. The main target in today's market were "Team Fantasy" seats in Category A which gave the defending AFC West Champion Chargers a (+35.00%) increase.

As a whole, the NFL has been a brutal market over the previous two sessions giving investors little guidance beyond its random fluctuations. The NFL is largely speculative at this point and the beginning of the regular season should bring a more rational marketplace.

Traders seemed increasingly perplexed in the Chicago market as Cubs and White Sox "Team Fanatsy" seats fluctuated in and out of the red. The Cubs-White Sox "Matchup Fantasy" seats dipped (-50.00%) from their session highs during trading only to rebound and end the day up (+24.00%). The volatility in the Chicago market all stems from speculation that the Cubs and White Sox may meet in the World Series. The Cubs market is very strong and coupled with their South-side neighbors, team prices are looking to be exorbitant. Both teams are currently leading their respective divisions.

From one big market to another, the NY Yankees continue to collapse as they shed another (-20.00%) as investors continue to shy away from these contracts and assume less riskier positions. The Rays dropped to one game behind the Angels for the best record in baseball and dropped (-11.00%). This left the Wild Card leading Red Sox as the lone gainer in the volatile Al East at (+.94%). The Angels, coming off a huge win against Tampa, tacked on another (+16.52)% in team fantasy seats with all of its associated match-ups posting gains except against the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks, although currently leading the NL West are a worry to some traders because of their weak resale market. This has caused investors to shy away from them even though they are leading their division. The rival Dodgers are currently two games behind the Diamondbacks, but are still trading nearly double their price. This results from LA being one of the top 3 markets in the country and the demand of sports fans for Dodgers tickets being substantial. Manny Ramirez's new ballclub ended the day at (-5.69%).

Expect heavy trading this weekend with three key series on tap between the Twins and Angels, Rays and White Sox, and Dodgers and Phillies.
